Right now, more than 4,000 people are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in Canada - almost 1,600 of them in the province of Ontario.
My GOAL is to have 1,600 people register as organ donors in Ontario.
The 1,600 donor target is symbolic of the number of people in Ontario waiting for organs from potential donors, like you. In fact, ONE person can save 8 lives and improve the lives of up to 75 others by registering as an organ and tissue donor. The registration process can be completed online in just two minutes. I'm Michael "Grey" Brett. I'm a Canadian with a passion for wellness and community who grew up in Stouffville, Ontario.
In 2005, I was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease called primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). It is an incurable, progressive disease that results in liver failure. At the time my doctors told me that I had roughly seven years before my liver would fail. I used that as motivation to live my life to the fullest and reach for my dreams.
I got heavily involved in competition level muay thai (kickboxing), moved to Bermuda for a year and a half then Grand Cayman for a further three years where I ran a very successful muay thai program. I got married and had a daughter. My family and I moved back to Toronto in late 2013.
My liver started to fail in May 2015. I was quickly hospitalized and remained in the University Health Network in Toronto as my condition got worse. It was a rough time. Eventually, on June 20, 2015, I received a new liver from a deceased donor and I was given a second chance at life.

I've started GOAL (Gift Of A Lifetime) Embassy for the purpose of documenting and celebrating the chapter of my life that began post-transplant - a chapter that would not have been possible without the life-saving gift of a new liver given to me by a young man who, in life, took steps communicate his wish to be an organ donor. This initiative is a celebration of the life he lived, as well as the life I'm grateful to be living, and the meaningful connections I make throughout my travels.
I invite you to take an interest in the work that's already being done in Ontario and across Canada to improve and save lives through established organ transplant programs. Please get involved by registering your consent to donate and spread the word about how easy and impactful it is to do so. Beyond that, I would love to hear from you to collaborate in raising the profile of this cause.
